An excellent book to remind yourself of concepts, teach vignettes, contraindications and next best steps.

As I study for Step 2 now, this book is a god send. It's concise, clear, well written and accurate.

I've been writing down the UWorld things I get wrong (or forget and fluke right) and they're almost all in here! I'm a big fan of this book for the following reasons.

1. Size: This book is perfectly sized for the white coat. I was on surgery for the 8 weeks before my Step 2 came around and I had this book with me each day and could burn through a chapter in 10-15 minutes as I bird dogged a patient. Also, almost every resident I met said this was a good book for Step 2 review at the last minute- though I used it earlier.

2. Content: There is no superfluous content here. The book will say- unlikely to be tested on this and keep answers short but will have answers for completeness' sake. The images are clear and good- though color would help sometimes, and they bold selectively and infrequently enough that it stands out. It is not- to be clear, a book that will explain all the concepts to you for Step 2- if you're looking for that I suggest Step Up to Medicine and Step Up to Step 2. This book will remind you of them, remind you of classic examples and vigenettes, teach you next best steps and absolute contraindications- the messy little facts we all tend to forget.

3. Speed of reading: For an average reader it's entirely easy to burn through this book in 1.5-2 days. What else can you say that about?

Not a bad book to carry around in your pocket for all of 3rd year folks. Or at least some of it!

Great Supplement to USMLE World

Everyone studies differently. I learn best from doing practice questions so was on the lookout for a good supplement to UWorld. Tried reading Master the Boards - which is a great book - but was not working for me; it was too passive. Secrets introduces topics by asking questions, which made it engaging.

I took a lot of notes on UWorld questions and annotated Secrets accordingly and felt well-prepared for CK.

P.S. If you are reading this early in the MS3 year: there is no substitute for preparing thoroughly for each shelf!!

About the Author
Joseph Barber Lightfoot (1828 1889), also known as J. B. Lightfoot, was an English theologian, preacher, canon of St Paul's Cathedral and bishop of Durham. His writings include essays on biblical and historical subject matter, commentaries on Pauline epistles and studies on the Apostolic Fathers as well as four posthumously published volumes of sermons. Lightfoot attended King Edward's School in Birmingham before attending Trinity College in Cambridge where he was elected a Fellow of his college. He became a tutor of Trinity College in 1857 and later a professor of divinity, editing theJournal of Classical and Sacred Philology from 1854 to 1859. In 1871, Lightfoot became canon of St. Paul's Cathedral, preaching regularly and participating in various ecclesiastical activities. He gained enormous popularity for his workEssays on the Work Entitled Supernatural Religion, a defense of the New Testament in response to Walter Richard Cassel's Supernatural Religion. In 1870, Lightfoot became Bishop of Durham, where he continued his theological study, writing, and preaching. Lightfoot wrote commentaries on Galatians, Philippians and Colossians and Philemon, and his newly discovered commentary notes on Acts, John, 2 Corinthians and 1 Peter are being published in the three-volume Lightfoot Legacy set.

This should be required reading in every seminary. In a modern era where such issues as heresy are either avoided or misconstrued, this text shines through to set the record straight. There are references here you will not find elsewhere. This was written when the Church was still the Church and understood the approaching philosophical milieu that the 20th century would bring. If you subscribe to the theories of those such as Bart Ehrmann, please read this for a sense of balance.

Great book

This book is extremely helpful. For me, the struggle has always been why aren't things happening? I have always believed in the power of the universe, so that wasn't the issue. I have read many, many books on this subject. I've had many blessings come, but often there would be accompanying "issues" that kind of balanced things out (for lack of a better explanation). I would get frustrated, because I knew the issue was with me, something I was, or wasn't doing that was necessary. Of course you kinda know you can't worry, be fearful, distrust, or be impatient, but the key is being open to being shown where you really are, so you can correct it. Turns out I was right and now I have a solid understanding of what I need to do to remove the blocks and set things on the right track. That's what this book does. I have no idea how I stumbled on this title, but I do see it as an answer to a pure desire for knowledge I put out there.
So,if you're struggling with the question of why aren't things happening? Or,why can I get this and not that? What do I need to do to become a deliberate creator? Then this the title for you.

Is this the final book on manifestation?

Firstly, the promise of Manifestation - The author Richard Dotts has already proved through his previous books that He is quite strong, clear, understanding and practicing techniques of manifestation even before he started advocating them.

Secondly, The previous book which I really loved Divine Intervention spoke about the ease of allowing Godness to come into us.

Thirdly, Here, I find the outstanding presentation of Path clearance for Manifestation to happen.

Gave me goosebumps when I could actually feel IT IS DONE!

I made the intention "I INTEND A RED ROSE. I INTEND THIS OR SOMETHING BETTER FOR THE HIGHER GOOD OF ALL INVOLVED. IT IS DONE". I was browsing through Pinterest and all of a sudden a red rose appeared! That feeling of knowing it worked was thrilling; so when I sat in that moment of feeling "OMG, it really worked, I was able to feel the tingles up the back of my neck. Then I was able to bring up that same feeling every time I keep saying "IT IS DONE". The feeling of it having already fulfilled is now very real!

All of Richard Dotts' books are beautifully written inasmuch as he draws on his personal experience to pinpoint exactly how we should go about creating our reality. I was really struck by his reference to the word 'Amen'. That was a huge lesson in itself.

I would recommend this, and all his books to those who have been trying to manifest without success.

About the Author
Gwidon Stachowiak is a Professor at Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia, specializing in tribology. His research interests include the development of methods for description of multiscale 3D surface topographies, tribocorrosion, and optimization of 3D surface textures for hydrodynamic contacts.

Andrew W. Batchelor has been involved in tribology for 30 years and has taught tribology at universities in Australia, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia and India. He has written books on topics relating to materials degradation, biomaterials and bioengineering.

About the Author
Richard Nelson-Jones was born in London in 1936. Having spent five years in California as a Second World War refugee, he returned in the 1960s to obtain a Masters and Ph.D from Stanford University. In 1970, he was appointed a lecturer in the Department of Education at the University of Aston to establish a Diploma in Counselling in Educational Settings, which started enrolling students in 1971. During the 1970s, he was helped by having three Fulbright Professors from the United States, each for a year, who both taught students and improved his skills. During this period he broadened out from a predominantly client-centred orientation to becoming much more cognitive-behavioural. He also wrote numerous articles and the first edition of what is now The Theory and Practice of Counselling and Therapy, which was published in 1982. In addition, he chaired the British Psychological Society's Working Party on Counselling and, in1982, became the first chairperson of the BPS Counselling Psychology Section.

In 1984, he took up a position as a counselling and later counselling psychology trainer at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, where he became an Associate Professor. He continued writing research articles, articles on professional issues and books, which were published in London and Sydney. As when he worked at Aston University, he also counselled clients to keep up his skills. In 1997, he retired from RMIT and moved to Chiang Mai in Thailand. There, as well as doing some counselling and teaching, he has continued as an author of counselling and counselling psychology textbooks. A British and Australian citizen, he now divides his time between Chiang Mai and London and regularly visits Australia.

In Love with This Series

I've never read anything from this author that wasn't really, really good, and this book is no exception. In the second installment of the Wright Brothers Series (and if you haven't read Getting Schooled, you MUST), Devyn and Joseph go from being coworkers at odds to friends with the best of benefits...I loved watching their relationship grow. The dialogue, as per usual, was creative and fresh, their chemistry was intense and palpable, and the storyline flowed nicely. I thought that Devyn was a really great character. She was multilayered, complicated, and extremely likable (that's a difficult trifecta to pull off). I don't think that Joseph was as developed as she was. That's my one gripe about this book; CCJ always has really well rounded lead characters, but Joseph didn't seem as robust as some of the leads in her other works. In any case, the book was another hit. I hope that the next book in the series is about Eric (Devyn's brother) and Aviva (Joseph's friend)! They were so intriguing--I have to know more about them now; Justin's story can wait!

A good read

This novel became my relaxing Sunday read. The second novel in the Wright Brothers series did not disappoint. Although not as fiery as book one, the characterisation remains strong and the plot development continues to be good! I loved the beginning best but this did not take away from the interaction between Joseph and Dervyn. Looking forward to reading Justin's story.

I'm loving CCJ. She gives us a quick snippet of these characters lives. While I think book 1 was stronger, I am loving her writing style. I'm definitely looking out for all of her stuff.

About the Author
Has done more than any other individual this century to change the way in which hypnotherapy is practiced. He was a fellow of many international professional bodies as was the founding president of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

Ernest L. Rossi, Ph.D., is Diplomate in Clinical Psychology and the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Psychotherapy by the Milton H. Erickson Foundation. He is also the science editor of Psychological Perspectives and the author, coauthor, and editor of numerous professional books.

Inside the February Man

These hypnosis sessions took place in 1945, when Erickson was still developing some of the approaches that made him the greatest hypnotist of his time. Erickson and Ernest L. Rossi went over the session transcriptions in detail many years later, and Erickson explained what he was doing and why, and how the patient got such extraordinary results from her sessions.

The sessions themselves are a virtual education in hypnotic approaches to time, as Erickson inserts his presence into "S"'s life and adds a parental voice and a trusted advisor to a childhood already lived. The book is like a nested series of conversations: Milton and "S" in 1945, Milton and Rossi in 1978, and Rossi and the reader as Rossi adds in metacomments on his earlier conversations with Erickson. Even the side comments by the rather clueless (IMO) Dr Fink added to my enjoyment of this extraordinary work. I consider this book a must for the library of anyone interested in hypnosis/nlp.

The ONLY full transcript of him working from start to finish that I am aware of...

This is the only full written transcript with commentary of Erickson working with someone from start to finish that I know of. I'm amazed at how few people have read this book. I love watching how he worked so long ago. At first it was hard for me to track what he was doing but when I got used to how he worked I could see the genius of what he was doing. Erickson was the master of metaphors and pattern interrupts. If you read closely you can use how he masterfully made use of these two tools to assist his client in making change.

The 'Decision Destroyer' by Richard Bandler was based on this work from what I have been told. There is so much to this work that if you were to spent just the time reading it and breaking down what Erickson did AND ultimately put it to use in your work then it would ONLY up your game.

Absolute must read for any serious student of Erickson!!

Many moons ago I happened to come across what one might call a condensed version of this case, and I read it, and I was FLOORED! It read like a gripping psychological detective thriller---and I'm sure that Dr. Erickson had to be a detective as well as a hypnotherapist--- now I'm looking forward to this complete account of one of his most fascinating cases ever set down on paper. The Cold War

The Cold War was inevitable, I think, because of the "artificial" alliance between dictatorship and democracy. Some realities soon were revealed after WW2 ( in fact, also during the war, eg the Katyn Executions ). Victor Kravchenko was an important person in this picture, thoroughly presented by Gary Kern in this book.
The information given in the book is impressive. Some questions regarding Kravchenko are still in the dark, others are explained, eg some his actions - and the actions of other people - in the crucial years 1944 - 46. The book is a mixture of a historical document and a political thriller.

We should not forget the freedom fighters of yesterday. These events took place only 50 - 60 years ago. The Soviet Union has collapsed, but not the totaliarian threat. Kravchenko was far from being a saint, but he had a message!Freedom of speech and the courage to use this freedom is one of the main themes in Gary Kern`s book.

A Remarkable Life

Gary Kern, well-known for his major book on the defector Krivitsky (A DEATH IN WASHINGTON), has now published a fascinating and thorough study of Victor Kravchenko, using archives and documents not previously available. Kravchenko was a defector from the Soviet bureaucracy who was the first to warn the West about Stalin's post-war plans and the first to reveal the extent of the Gulags. His life was complicated by his aggressive temperament, but it was that temperament that led him to confront Stalinists in the course of a bitter trial in France. Kern has digested massive amounts of material here, and one begins to understand better the roots of the Cold War and Kravchenko's role in educating Americans about Stalin's true attitudes. Along the way we are given mini-biographies of Soviet spies in America, a discussion of why Krachenko was against McCarthyism and a revealing look at the nature of the French Communist Party. All in all, a stunning work of scholarship.

The book is very well researched and provides informations ignored for a long time (I believe). But it is a one-sided approach, as if we were always in the middle of Cold War ! Eugene LYONS is not thoroughly surveyed. Too little is said about the economics of "I CHOOSE FREEDOM".
